It sounds simple enough. You wear something, it gets sweaty, you wash it, it comes out fresh. That's the deal. Except it doesn't always work that way — and for active wear, sports kits, and anything worn close to the skin through real exertion, the gap between "washed" and "clean" can be significant.
Why Your Washing Machine Isn't Enough
Standard detergents are designed to remove surface soiling. They work well on most everyday stains — food, dirt, general grime. But sweat odour operates differently.

Most antiperspirants contain aluminium salts as their active ingredient. When these compounds transfer to fabric and interact with the proteins and fats in sweat, they form a residue that binds to fabric fibres — particularly in the underarm area — and accumulates with every wear.
A shirt might smell fine when you first get it, but after six months of regular wear, it smells within minutes of being put on — even immediately after washing. The garment has developed a residue layer that regular laundering can no longer address.
The Answer Is Prevention: Treat Every Wash
The most effective strategy is prevention. The principle is straightforward: treat before every wash, not just when you notice a problem. A small amount of Truly after each wear can go a long way.
